About Catherine

I was born in South Africa and lived in Australia as a child. I’ve worked in South Africa and the United Kingdom, prior to returning to live and work in Australia, as a psychiatrist, in 2009.

I qualified in medicine at University of Cape Town, South Africa (with Honours), in 1985. My initial psychiatry training was completed in South Africa in 1991. I became a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) in 2010.

My consultant psychiatrist positions have been with Eastern Health (Melbourne), Werribee Mercy Health (perinatal), Barwon health service (Geelong) and at the Geelong Clinic. I have also worked as Medical Director for Healthscope and currently, continue in my part-time role as Director of Psychiatry registrar training for RANZCP and Barwon health service (Geelong). I hold an academic position with Deakin University medical school as a senior lecturer as well as being a PhD researcher (perinatal). I have published widely in many areas of psychiatry. I am also an RANZCP examiner for the psychiatry registrars’ final examinations.

In 2022, I joined the Telepsychiatrist Online alliance after my positive experience of providing telehealth care, to patients, during the Covid Pandemic.
