I was born in the United Kingdom and have been living and working in Australia since 2003.
I qualified in medicine at St Mary's Hospital Medical School in London in 1988. I also obtained a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of London in 1998.
I trained in psychiatry at St Mary's Hospital, St Charles Hospital, Northwick Park Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London.
I became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK in 1993, and a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists in 2003, where I am also a member of the Faculty for Psychiatry of Old Age.
I have held consultant psychiatrist positions at University College London Hospitals NHS Trust, Barwon Health, Geelong, Southwest Healthcare, Warrnambool and at The Geelong Clinic.
I have been a consultant psychiatrist since 1998. I established telepsychiatrist.online in 2017 in response to the shortage of psychiatrists in regional and rural areas of Australia. I have been published widely with more than 80 journal articles and book chapters on psychiatry.
I hold an academic position as Clinical Professor at Deakin University in the medical school and teach psychiatry to medical students. I am also an occasional examiner and assessor for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.
Dr Harvey will consider referrals for any patient over the age of 18.
Due to high demand, the average waiting time for a new patient appointment is 3 months.

Professor Harvey does not see perinatal patients, patients seeking early release of super to access IVF, children under 16 or patients with eating disorders.
He recommends searching the RANZCP "Find a Psychiatrist" service to find a psychiatrist with appropriate expertise.
Professor Harvey is available to provide expert opinion in certain civil medico-legal matters. He does not provide independent medical examinations, and is unable to assit with family court matters.
